In the fire service we call ladders we can carry to a burning house or building ground ladders. Our ladders range in different lengths. A 50 foot ladder will reach a fourth floor window. This estimate is made by the average building story being 12 foot from floor to floor. Placing a ladder next to your home or business does not sound like it would be hard to do. Selecting a ladder for the job at hand is usually a judgment of distance. When selecting a ladder for climbing you need to consider a few things

1 Will you be using this ladder around electrical wires?
2- How tall of a ladder do you need?
3- How much weight will the ladder support safely?
4- How would a wood ladder be safer for the job?
5- How would a metal ladder be safer for the job?
6- How would a fiberglass ladder be safer?
7- How tall of a step ladder will you need?
8- How tall of an extension ladder will you need?
All the above factors are need for consideration when selecting a ladder for your next job

When selecting an extension ladder to ensure the top three rungs extend past the window sill or roof top.

When selecting a ladder for your job consider using the following suggestions for ladder usage.
Top of a four story roof of home or building you will need a ladder at least 50 foot or over.
Top of a Three story roof or window you will need a ladder at least 35-50 foot.
Top of a Second story roof you will need a ladder at least 28-35 foot.
To Second story window sill you will need a ladder at least 20-28 foot
Top of a First story roof you will need a ladder at least 16-20 foot
